On Saturday, county residents flocked to Poolesville Day on Fisher Avenue’s Whalen Commons.
The day began with a VIP Breakfast at Poolesville Elementary School. One of the featured speakers, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, talked about her very first political public appearance in the Poolesville parade. And she reassured the audience “White’s Ferry is absolutely a priority at the state level.”
Other local officials in the crowd included County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Andrew Friedson, councilmembers Evan Glass, Dawn Luedtke, Gabe Albornoz and Marilyn Balcombe. State Senator Brian Feldman and delegates Lily Qi, David Fraser-Hidalgo and Linda Foley were also in attendance. Candidates for the Board of Education included Lynne Harris, Shebra Evans, Brenda Diaz, Natalie Zimmerman and Laura Stewart.
School Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor was scheduled to appear but instead was reportedly being tested for Covid. Board of Education President Karla Silvestre was in the audience.
Speakers cut their presentations short to make sure everyone had time to make it to the next event – the big event – on the Poolesville Day program: the parade.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the parade stepped off complete with local bands and more political candidates. U.S. Senate candidates Angela Alsobrooks and Larry Hogan marched down Fisher Avenue interacting with parade goers. Neil Parrott and April McClain Delaney, opponents in the race for Congressional District 6, did the same.
Once the parade passed by it was time for more festivities including arts and crafts, food trucks, live music, rides for children and what was touted as the largest EV (electric vehicle) show on the East Coast.
All the day-long activities were free.
